Overview

A well-established, founder-led business with over 35 years of experience in the food, agriculture, and packaging sectors is seeking a dynamic and hands-on HR Director to join its leadership team. With two core divisions and operations across the U.S., the company serves multiple industries through industrial bulk, food service, and retail channels. As a fast-growing organization with international reach, the company offers a unique opportunity for a highly motivated HR leader to make a direct impact alongside the owner/founder.

Position Summary

The Human Resources Director is a strategic and operational leader responsible for overseeing HR practices across multiple divisions and states. Reporting directly to the CFO and working closely with the owner/founder, this role is central to driving talent development, performance, and cultural initiatives across the organization. The position requires a high level of engagement with employees at all levels, including time spent on-site at operational facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Oversight: Lead a small HR team in delivering best-in-class HR services across a workforce of 250+ employees in 11 states.
  • Employee Relations: Champion a proactive employee relations strategy, providing coaching and support to managers and staff. Maintain visibility across worksites to assess morale and workplace culture.
  • Strategic Planning: Partner with senior leadership to develop and implement forward-looking human capital plans and succession strategies.
  • Policy & Compliance: Ensure consistent application of HR policies, maintain compliance with employment laws, and respond to regulatory inquiries.
  • Compensation & Benefits: Oversee compensation structures and benefits programs, ensuring competitiveness, compliance, and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Talent Acquisition: Manage recruiting strategy and processes, ensuring timely acquisition of diverse, high-quality candidates and contingent workers.
  • Cultural Stewardship: Promote a culture aligned with the founder’s vision, emphasizing performance, fairness, and respect.
  • Performance Management: Lead the performance management process, including coaching, feedback, goal-setting, and performance reviews.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement HR process improvements to better support business objectives.
  • Training & Development: Facilitate professional development initiatives to enhance leadership and employee capabilities at all levels.

Reporting Structure

  • Reports to: CFO
  • Direct Reports: HR Business Partner and HR Manager

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or HR-specific certification (SHRM-SCP, PHR, etc.) preferred
  • 8+ years of HR leadership experience, ideally in manufacturing or operational settings
  • Strong business acumen with a strategic yet hands-on leadership style
  • Demonstrated success in employee engagement, compliance, and performance management
  • Experience supporting multi-state operations
  • High ethical standards, objectivity, and ability to influence at all levels

Travel Requirements

  • Minimal travel required to other sites as needed
