Senior Electrical Engineer - Power Systems

Location: Denver, CO

A leading engineering firm is seeking an experienced, motivated Senior Electrical Engineer with a PE license to join our engineering team at our Western US location. Due to the nature of our work as a Federal Contractor, candidates must be a US Citizen.

Our company is a full-service electric utility solutions engineering firm with more than twenty years' experience in electrical utility system ownership, upgrades, maintenance and operations. We offer a wide range of power system engineering services to investor-owned, municipal, cooperative, government, industrial, and commercial customers.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design sub-transmission systems, substations, switching stations, and complex commercial/industrial power distribution systems.
  • Develop concept design alternatives, engineering calculations, analysis, and engineering estimates for small-scale system improvement projects for substations and distribution systems.
  • Develop/review complex electrical system models and validate various system study findings/recommendations.
  • Develop electrical specifications for major electrical apparatus.
  • Create system model for large-scale power system in industry-standard software. Perform various power system analysis/studies.
  • Develop bill of material and technical specifications.
  • Schedule and attend field walk-downs to determine project requirements.
  • Perform field take-offs/evaluations for estimate preparation.
  • Participate in estimate review process as needed.
  • Update and maintain GIS database for large-scale electrical distribution systems.
  • Perform site surveys for major upgrade projects and develop concept design.
  • Prepare cost estimates for large-scale electric distribution and substation projects.
  • Keep up to date with utility industry standards and codes. Enforce and maintain all applicable standards and codes for our O&M, replacement/renewable and new installations.
  • Will assist site construction personnel throughout the project life cycle.
  • Analyze electrical fault events, power quality issues, system loading scenarios. Assist site crew with implementing corrective actions.
  • Project management duties: Prepare construction schedules; submit RFI to clients; act as POC for facilitating design review process and addressing open items as requested by client.
  • Update and maintain GIS database for large-scale electrical distribution systems.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance in support of their career development.

Travel: 20% to client sites

Skills and Qualifications:

  • BS degree, Electrical Engineering, from accredited university with emphasis in power systems required.
  • PE License preferred
  • Eight plus (8+) years of work experience in electrical utility industry.
  • Solid background with medium voltage electrical substations and distribution systems.
  • Possess broad and in-depth knowledge of principles, practices, procedures, and standards related to utility power distribution systems.
  • Expert with power system analysis, distribution system modeling, and protective device coordination.
  • Must be a team player with excellent oral and written communication skills.

Other Requirements:

  • US citizenship required.
  • You will be required to obtain Security Clearance.
  • Valid driver's license required.
